Obadiah Chaney was born about 1771 in Virginia. His early life is not very well documented. For years researchers had tried to pinpoint where in Virginia he was from. A deed for the sale of a horse in 1796 is the only know record of Obadiah in Virginia. It was for a neighbor of Jacob Chaney Pittsylvania County Virginia. Through DNA Testing there are close ties to Jacobs current day relatives. Narrowing down sons of Jacob Chaney's sons that could have been of child bearing age and not well documented were James Chaney. James Chaney died before May 1792 the court date placing sons Elisha and Moses with overseers in Pittsylvania Virginia. Obadiah arrived in Pulaski County Kentucky about 1800 before moving on to Green Kentucky. He arrived there about the same time as John Chaney son of Jacob Chaney Pittsylvania Virigina. There is no proof that Obadiah is the son of James other than circumstantial evidence at this point. Obadiah Married an Elizabeth Last Name Unknown possibly Burton or Payne given names given to Males in family. Obadiah and Elizabeth had 8 children. Daniel Riley, Asher R., James, Richard, Aaron, George P, Elizabeth Ann, and John Burton Chaney. |
